Wavy, curly, straight hair... it all gets matted, but it can also be prevented. Healthy pet coats require love and attention, your dogs hair depends on it.
Sometimes they are hard to see until the matted hair becomes a big knot.
These knot are painful and irritating to your dog. It can make it difficult for oxygen to reach the affect area's skin and can pull.
By the time the matting has developed, it is too late to properly groom the affected area.
The area in which matting starts to develop the quickest is behind the ears, between paw pads, under the legs and neck.
What to expect from your dogs grooming at Bohemian Spaw if they are matted.
As much as we would love to just brush out small knots and keep a longer coat. Some knots are past the point of no return and will have to be shaved down to start over with a fresh coat.
If they are in areas that are not normally visibly (Under legs, small area behind ears) those we can cut off without having to shave down the whole dog.

Consistent brushing with a pin brush will greatly reduce matting on your dog. Highly recommended after outdoor play.
Pin brushes have fine wires that make brushing your dog easy.
If your pet has started to develop small amounts of matting. You can use a wire brush and gently but firmly pull the mats out before they get worse.
A good grooming schedule will ensure a healthy coat, reduced matting, and a comfortable groomable pet. 4-6 weeks in between grooms is common.
